Empower Newsletter – February 2011

Welcome to the February, 2011 edition of the Empower Newsletter.  Can you believe a whole month has passed since the year began?  I wonder how far you have come in achieving your goals for the year.

Quote of the month

‘Things do not change, we change’ Henry David Thoreau

Affirmation corner

Abundance Affirmation

‘The more grateful I am, the more reasons I find to be grateful’

Did you know?

’we have six core needs’

Our six core needs are the need for: 1. CERTAINTY, SAFETY & COMFORT 2. UNCERTAINTY, VARIETY & ADVENTURE 3. SIGNIFICANCE 4. LOVE/CONNECTION 5. CONTRIBUTION 6. GROWTH

What I found interesting is that if we don’t have them all in our lives we will not be totally fulfilled.

The first four needs are needs of the personality and the last two are needs of the spirit.  A good question to ask yourself is “am I meeting the needs of my personality resourcefully (R) or un-resourcefully (U)?”  To make it easier to determine, below you will find examples of each.

Certainty, Safety & Comfort R = by backing ourselves to get the results we want U = by controlling others; through food, routine, procrastination, control, hours of watching TV Uncertainty, Variety & Adventure R = playfulness, having fun, embracing adventure, changing the meaning of an event, embracing new challenges, new hobbies, encouraging creativity in ourselves U = Creating drama/problems, self-sabotage, overwhelm, drug taking, intoxication, changing TV channels Significance R = getting good at what you do, getting desired results, inspiring others, being a leader of self & others, volunteer work, speaking up, achieving a goal U = putting others down, promiscuity, gossips, telling sad stories about ourselves, martyr, victim, rebellion, lying in a way that gets us caught Love & Connection R = sharing, supporting, self-worth, being loyal to self, and connecting with your god, nature and self U = being needy, self-harm, submersing yourself in unhealthy relationships, and connecting with others through drugs, problems, drama, alcohol, food

Events Schedule

Chicks in the City Wed 16/2/2011 at 6.30pm

Chicks in the City meet the third Wednesday of every month from 6.30pm to 8pm at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, 117 Ryedale Road, West Ryde in the Hawks Lounge (lower ground lounge area).

Chicks in the City are a group for women to connect.  Basically it’s all about hanging out with women, meeting new friends, socialising, finding like-minded women to chat to or even making long lasting friendships.  All women are welcome and it’s free.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Tip for achieving your goals

My number one tip to achieve your goals is ‘action’.  Start by doing one thing at a time.  If your goals seem too big and you are not sure where to start, break them down into smaller chunks.   Remember each step can be as simple as making a phone call, scheduling a meeting or researching.   For example, if your goal is to increase the number of friends you have, a first step could be to schedule the time to research a group you would like to join or if you know of a group, making the phone call.

How good will it feel when you achieve your goals? What will you be telling yourself? What will you be seeing? What will people be saying?

Have you taken up my challenge to write down one business and one personal goal for 2011?  Have you been taking consistent action towards achieving them?

I would love to hear about your success stories and milestones along the way so I can share them in this newsletter to inspire others.
