Empower Newsletter – April 2011

Welcome to the April, 2011 edition of the Empower Newsletter.  I trust the goals you set for 2011 are progressing nicely and you are rewarding your milestones along the way.  What about an eyebrow tint, facial or time out for a nice hot bath, I am sure you deserve it.

Quote of the Month

‘The biggest problem we have is to think that we are not meant to have any problems’ Unknown Author

Something to Ponder

‘It seems that we’re so afraid of being let down that we try to find something wrong to begin with – just so we’re not disappointed later’ Anthony Robbins

Did you know?

’the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results’ Albert Einstein So if a particular behaviour is not getting you the results you desire, it makes sense to change the behaviour.  By changing your current behaviour, your outcome must change.

For example, getting nervous (the behaviour) may be hindering you from giving an outstanding presentation (the result you want).  The first step is to ask yourself, ‘how do I do nervous?’  Elicit the steps you must do to be able to feel that way.   What do you have to think, tell yourself, see, hear and feel?  Then establish in what order you do these steps.

So to be nervous (the behaviour), you may think about the presentation, then you might start telling yourself ‘what if I stuff up’.  Next you may imagine all the people that will be there, which then makes your heart beat faster and your body become tense.  Then before you know it you are nervous.

By changing the steps needed to feel nervous (the behaviour), you will get a different result.  An example of this is when you think about the presentation, instead of thinking about stuffing up, you could take a couple of deep breaths and think about how good you will feel after successfully completing the presentation.

Because you have changed the steps, you will no longer be able to do ‘nervous’ (the behaviour).  Thus the outcome has changed.  Why not give it a go next time you find yourself ‘doing’ a particular behaviour such as anxious or stressed.  I would love to know how it worked out.

Events Schedule

Chicks in the City Wed 20/4/2011 at 6.30pm

Chicks in the City meet the third Wednesday of every month from 6.30pm to 8pm at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, 117 Ryedale Road, West Ryde in the Hawks Lounge (lower ground lounge area).

Chicks in the City is a group for women to connect.  Basically it’s all about hanging out with women, meeting new friends, socialising, finding like-minded women to chat to or even making long lasting friendships.  All women are welcome and it’s free.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Influences in your life

’the 5 closest people in your life dictate your life’ At a recent NLP training I attended the idea was suggested that the 5 closest people in your life influence your beliefs, values and behaviour.  Does who you are and who you will become depend heavily on the company you keep?  For example, if you constantly hang out with negative people, will you ultimately find yourself becoming a negative person too?  If you spend a lot of time with friends who work hard, will you also work hard?

What sort of people do you hang out with? Do they have the qualities you would like to have?
