Empower Newsletter – January 2012

Welcome to the New Year!  I wonder what wonderful things lay ahead of us all.  How exciting!  What are your hopes and dreams for 2012?  How do you want things to be in your life and how are you going to make them happen?

There is no time like the present to start the ball rolling.  The trick to achieving anything is to start.  One thing at a time (start the ball rolling) and then do another (keep pushing it along) and then do another (keep pushing, puff puff) until one day you suddenly realise you have want you want.  Woo hoo!!!!  If one thing doesn’t work, don’t’ give up, try another!

Did you know?

‘the only way you can fail is to totally give up’

There is no failure, only feedback!  What a great way to look at it.  Feedback is just finding another way that doesn’t work.  Listen, ask questions, research and then implement changes to try something different.  It will ultimately get you closer to what you want because you now know one more way not to do it.  Did you know successful people have had to find more ways of doing something, or failed more times than anybody else, to get where they are.  They are not afraid of failure.  They don’t see it as a bad thing.  In fact they see it as getting closer to where they want to be.   What are your rules for failure?  Does it take one or several times of trying before you give up?  For some people giving up can be as simple as someone else not agreeing with them.  If what you are doing does not work, do you try something different or do you instantly believe you have tried and failed?  If it is the latter, is this belief serving you?  Did you achieve your 2011 goals or did you conveniently admit failure due to maybe one or even two half-hearted attempts?  Or even worse, did you not start them at all.  This rule for failure would make it hard for anyone to succeed.  If you did achieve one or all of your 2011 goals, congratulations!

What would happen if you started a new strategy or behaviour to achieve what you want? To not only try something different when something wasn’t working, but also to have a rule for failure that serve’s you.  My rule for failure is to stop trying.  This means I can only fail if I stop going after what I want.  I find this makes it very hard to fail.  It’s a rule that serves me.

What are your rules for failure?  What has to happen for you to stop going after want you want?

A Great Read

Spirituality in the Workplace by Various Authors

I believe this is a topic that naturally, although slowly, is encompassing the workplace as it is society as a whole.  How can we be different people at work than we are away from work?

Each author has a different version what spiritually is in the workplace.  I really related to a few of them who specifically related to spiritually as being at peace and having a deep connection with ourselves.  This means taking responsibility for our advancements and our own development.  Basically to have a deepened self-awareness as part of our work performance.
