Welcome to the March 2012 edition of the Empower Newsletter. In this edition the focus is on personal growth and how changing your thinking and approach can get you what you want. Enjoy!
Question and Answer
‘how do you know what you don’t know?’
What’s so important about knowing what you don’t already know? Surely if you don’t know it, you mustn’t need to know it. You have got this far without knowing, what possible reason could there be to find out some of the things you don’t know. Well the number one reason is to improve the quality of our lives.
It is so important because all of our decisions, interactions and behaviours are governed by our beliefs. The problem with this is that we don’t consciously think about what our beliefs are. A lot of them are unconscious and although some beliefs serve us, others are less empowering.
The thing with beliefs is if you believe something is true or you believe it’s not, you are right. Beliefs can either open up possibilities or shut you down.
To work out what you don’t know, focus on an area in your life that is not the way you want it to be. There will be an underlying belief that is not serving you. For example, do you believe that people are honest or dishonest, people take advantage or they are givers? Do those beliefs make a difference to how you treat them or how they treat you because of how you perceive them? Our beliefs determine what we think and what we think determines how we act.
An example of this is if you believe people are generally dishonest, after being at a conference all day when you realise you don’t have your purse/wallet with you, do you wonder who stole it or do you wonder where you left it? The answer impacts not only on your mood but also your thoughts and behaviour.
The good thing about beliefs is that they can be changed. What beliefs are going to serve you in creating a life you want?

A Great Read
“Give Asthma the Big A” by Marian Shepherd Slee
This Brisbane woman tells of her battle with asthma and how she overcame it. Marian claims that Vitamin A (with a little help from Vitamin E & C at times) was not only her saviour, but tells of others having the same success. However as Marian explains in the book Vitamin A is not recommended by the medical institution as apparently it can be harmful. Personally I have suffered from mild asthma since the age of 2 and decided that I would experiment with Vitamin A to see if it made a difference to my asthma. Although it has only been 3 weeks of taking one Vitamin A and E per week, I have not had to use my ventolin at all (even before running). I can now feel my breath pass through my sinuses and my airway feels somehow wider. I can’t help but wonder if this is how it feels to breathe properly.
I decided last year that I would work on getting rid of my asthma and wouldn’t you know it, I saw this book. Would I have bought it is it wasn’t part of my focus/goals?
