Empower Newsletter – April 2012

Welcome to the April 2012 edition of the Empower Newsletter.  The main focus in this edition is about creating transformation in your life simply by taking more responsibility.  Enjoy!

Do you know?

‘how can you take more responsibility?’

What is taking responsibility all about anyway?  You may answer that it is about making sure the family is looked after, there is enough income, there is a roof over your head, you have clean clothes, you eat sensibly, being a law abiding citizen, etc.  Well you are right, although it’s much more than these things.  It is also about taking responsibility for how you feel or don’t feel, how you are treated or not treated, and what you achieve or don’t achieve.

Do you often have a reason or excuse to justify how you feel or why something is happening to you?  If this is the case, it may make you feel better at the time but it will only end up helping you to stay stuck.  By acknowledging responsibility for the situation, it not only allows you to learn and grow, it may be the turning point you are looking for to create the life you have always dreamed of.

For example, by blaming circumstances or another person for a negative emotion or a non-desirable result, is only allowing us to justify to ourselves that it is not our fault.  And if it is not our fault we don’t have to do anything to establish how we can change the outcome/feeling or future outcomes/feelings.

By acknowledging that we alone are responsible for how we feel and our results, it allows us to look at how we can get a different/better result.  This can be done by choosing different actions, ways to respond to people, behaviours and/or perceptions.  This will then create a different outcome.  As Einstein says ‘the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.’

Are you responding the same way or doing the same things over and over again expecting a different result?

Check out the article for some extra tips on how you can take more responsibility and how successful people take responsibility.

“Responsibility is the price of greatness.” Winston Churchill

Quote of the month

“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.” Jim Rohn

Responsibility Affirmation

‘I am 100% responsible for my life’

A Great Read

“The Brain That Changes Itself” by Norman Doidge, M.D.

This book claims how the power of positive thinking has finally gained scientific credibility.

One part I found extremely interesting was all about Alzheimer’s disease and how the principal of ‘if you don’t use it, you lose it’ comes into play.

If you think about it, it’s quite logical. For example, when older people retire, they stop using certain skills or performing tasks.  They are no using parts of the brain that they were previously using.  As described in the book one of the best ways to keep Alzheimer’s at bay is to learn a different language as this ensures ‘you don’t lose it’.
