Empower Newsletter – July 2018

Welcome to the July 2018 edition of the Empower Newsletter.  This month the focus is on sustaining contentment by looking for the beauty in life.

Do you know?

contentment equals happiness

You can’t always control what happens in your life; what you can control is how you react to it!

Looking for the beauty and good in life is a great way of helping us to react in a way that will allow us to continue feeling content.

If there is a situation where you can’t find any beauty, be the propagator of that beauty.

Reframing, which is a different way of looking at something, is a perfect way to see the beauty in something where there may not seem to be any.  For example, how can there be any good when your washing machine leaks and ruins your carpet?  What about the feeling of ending up with good, lush, nice smelling, brand new carpet!  Or instead of being sacked from your job leaving you devastated, it can be reframed as creating new opportunities.

Another way is to replace “I’m sorry” with “Thank you.”  Here are some examples of what I mean: -

Instead of saying “Sorry for being late” say “Thanks for waiting” or “Thanks for your patience.”

Instead of saying “Sorry for raving on” say “Thank you for listening.”

Instead of saying “Sorry for being so boring“ say “Thank you for spending time with me.”

Instead of saying “Sorry I’m such a disappointment” say “Thank you for having hope in me.”

By saying ‘thank you’ you are not only giving others gratitude and appreciation instead of negativity, you are also improving the way you feel about yourself by not unknowingly lowering your self-worth and harming your self-confidence by apologising for actions and circumstances. It allows the feeling of contentment to continue.

Remember see the beauty where there is none!

The state of being contented; satisfaction; ease of mind.

Something to Ponder

“For just one second, look at your life and see how perfect it is. Stop looking for the next secret door that is going to lead you to your real life. Stop waiting. This is it: there’s nothing else. It’s here, and you’d better decide to enjoy it or you’re going to be miserable wherever you go, for the rest of your life, forever.”

~ Lev Grossman, The Magicians ~

Quotes of the Month

Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it.”
