Empower Newsletter – December 2019

Welcome to the December 2019 edition of the Empower Newsletter.  Because this month includes Christmas, here is a way/strategy to give yourself a wonderful present.

Do you know?

‘what you want’

Did you know that half the battle of getting what you want is knowing what ‘it’ is and what ‘it’ looks like? It’s really quite common for people to know and focus on what they don’t want. Believe it or not, even when we’re thinking about what we don’t want, we are not only putting energy into it, our unconscious mind thinks this is what we actually want.

Did you know that our unconscious mind doesn’t acknowledge negators like no, not, don’t, can’t, shouldn’t, will not or no longer, etc.? So when we say ‘I don’t want to fail’ our unconscious mind doesn’t hear the word ‘don’t’, it hears ‘I want to fail’ and our unconscious wants us to have whatever we want.

The trick is to work out what you do want!

So whenever you find yourself thinking about what it is you don’t want, change the thoughts in the direction to what you do want. An example of this is instead of not wanting a friend that leaves you feeling pretty ordinary and flat, decide exactly what type of friend you want, like someone that makes you feel good about yourself and energised.

Remember what you focus on is what you get!

By focusing on what you do want in every aspect of your life, you will not only create energy around it because you’ll know exactly what that is and what it looks like, you will also act on it when it appears.

It sounds logical that we would act on an opportunity when it appears but unless we actually work out exactly what it is we want, chances are we will not even know it’s something we want. In other words, it could be right in front of us but unless we know what it is we actually want we won’t see it. Have you ever bought a car and suddenly it seemed that there were a lot of cars around exactly the same as yours? Yes, well they were always there, it’s just that you didn’t see them until your focus changed. It’s the same in relation to focusing on what you want.

Remember it may start with knowing what you don’t want but it is imperative to work out what you do want so you will be able to start working toward it and also to know when it comes along.

Definition

Negation

  1. The contradiction or denial of something.
  2. The absence or opposite of something actual or positive.

Something to Ponder

If you hear the statement “Don’t think about the elephant!”, then in some sense you have only comprehended it if you understand every part of the sentence. So when you reach the word “elephant”, some aspect of your internal representation of ‘elephant’ necessarily becomes active. If it didn’t, you wouldn’t even know that you had heard the word “elephant” in the first place.

Quotes of the Month

It’s all in your mind!

Whatever you hold in your mind will tend to occur in your life.  If you continue to believe as you have always believed, you will continue to act as you have always acted.  If you continue to act as you have always acted, you will continue to get what you have always gotten.  If you want different results in your life or your work, all you have to do is change your mind.
