Empower Newsletter – April 2020
Welcome to the April 2020 edition of the Empower Newsletter. Because of all the uncertainty we are faced with at the moment, it’s important to focus on certainty in an attempt to restore a bit of balance to our lives.

Do you know? |
‘too much uncertainty creates fear’
With all of the ‘uncertainty’ we are facing with Covid-19 at the moment, I thought it would be beneficial for everyone if I focused on creating more ‘certainty’ in these uncertain times.
You see, if there is too much ‘uncertainty’ in our lives it throws us out of balance to a point that we find it hard to cope with everyday life because we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. Too much uncertainty creates fear which can take hold and control us until we just can’t function.
It’s the same with too much ‘certainty’ in our lives, it creates boredom. That’s why it is so important to have a good balance of both.
So in a time where ‘uncertainty’ is at the forefront, acknowledging more of the ‘certainty’ we have in our lives will create more calmness and balance to make it easier for us to function.
The trick is to start looking for and acknowledging all of the things in our lives that we are grateful for. The things we are fairly certain of, the everyday things that we can sometimes take for granted.
Let me start you off by helping you find and see what certainties you may already have in your life: -
Sunrise, sunset, hot shower, flushing toilet, clean drinking water, loving family, friendships, a voice, your health, food, shelter, choice of mindset, sense of humour, gratitude, clothing, eye sight, hearing, technology, a brain, transport, that neighbours will always be on TV, haha.
Everyone’s situation is different but there are always things we can be comfortably ‘certain’ will happen.
Make a choice today to create more of a balance in your life by focusing more on the things you are ‘certain’ of.
In these surreal times where we don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow we can take solace in knowing that there are somethings we can be certain of.
Definition |
Certainty
* A firm conviction that something is the case.
* It’s a feeling of certainty.
* A confidence in something.
Something to Ponder |
How can we need both certainty and uncertainty? Aren’t they opposites?
They are in fact a balance.
If we have too much certainty, that leads to boredom and we crave variety, excitement and challenge. If we have too much uncertainty that can lead to overwhelm, stress and fear and we crave more safety, security and stability.
We’ll tend to prioritise our need for certainty, comfort or safety more or less highly than we do our need for uncertainty, variety and excitement.
